Spring Colors: Peach/Pink/Nude
If the last few sunny have you feeling just peachy, then this post is for you!
Let me start by saying that I am one pasty sonnofagun. An unfortunate combination of genetics and weather has left me perma-pale, and there’s nothing to be done about it. As such, I thought my complexion left me out of the running for certain colors, especially pink. But with all these nudes, taupes, peaches, and ballerina pinks strutting down the runways and on the streets, who am I to resist? For the first time in a long time, I tried on a nudey, pinky thing (An oh-so-soft sweater. With Dolman sleeves, if you really wanna know.) And guess what? I looked damn good! Don’t miss out on the yummy color trends because of your coloring, just find the shade that works for you (this unfortunately involves a certain amount of trial and error, don’t say I didn’t warn you.)
If you’re nervous to take a dive into the naked look, start with shoes (heads up: this is my advice for everything!) A great nude colored shoe will give you legs for days, and who doesn’t want that? This effect is created by scoring a pair that is close in color to your skin tone, so that your legs get a few more inches added (and heels help with this too, obviously!)
Check out a few of my favorite leg-lengtheners in my new favorite color!

Any of these beauties would surely add a spring to your step!
xoxo,
Sally

Ports 1961: Spring Safari 2011
One of the trends I am most looking forward to this spring is safari-inspired streetwear, and the gal who did is best was easily Fiona Cibani of Ports 1961. See what I mean?
The show was minimalist, clean, with the occasional pop of color (jewel tones) or subtle prints, all done in beautiful draping. Cibani shows that she sure knows how to treat a woman of the world: with classic, flattering cuts to compliment every shape, with a look for occasion.
Who were your favorites from the Spring shows?
Derek Lam Spring 2011: A Trip to Sunny SoCal
I have been following Derek Lam for awhile now and it has been lovely to watch his aesthetic evolve and see him come into his own. In his Spring 2011 collection, we again see those 70s references, but in much subtler way (and a pre-disco-70s, while we’re on the subject.) See what I mean?

Lam is at his best here, with modern, flowy maxi dresses juxtaposed against clean lines in white and denim (if you go and view the whole collection, please note the return of the Texas Tuxedo.) The 70s influence is definitely more of a whisper than a scream, awash in a Sunny, Southern California glow. Lots of interesting, flattering silhouettes, amazing retro styling, finished off with groovy wooden platforms and strappy sandals. What more could you want when the temperature starts to rise?
All Hail the Minimalism Renaissance! (Chloe Spring 2011)
Minimalism is having a “moment” right now, as was made obvious at the Chloe Spring 2011 show last year. You may have thought minimalism was just another word for boring, but Hannah MacGibbon is here to change your mind. Dressing in muted shades of champagne and cream presents more of a sartorial challenge than you would think. Take a look:
Her floaty, ballet-inspired collection definitely impressed me. There were all lengths of sheer pleated skirts (worn over leotards or jazz shorts for modesty) and a well-curated range of metallics to help you beat the impending heat. Add a ubiquitous oxford shoe, classic ballet flat or sexy flat sandal, and you’re ready for dance class (and Spring!)
Let’s meet back here for some more Spring inspiration soon!
Phillip Lim is my Homeboy
I mean, the man knows women so well. His Spring collection was both unique and incredibly universal. With luxurious, feminine fabrics like tulle, organza and lace, foiled with menswear silhouettes and tailoring, just to make sure nothing gets too frou frou, I can’t help but dream of wearing every single piece in the collection (but hey, I’m greedy like that.) It was a challenge, but here are a few of my favorite looks from 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2011 collection:

I can’t wait to wear shorts again! Stick around for more of my favorite looks from Spring 2011 (because it’s almost here!)
I cannot…
…nay, WILL not save the best for last! Now that I have finally gotten around to perusing the Spring 2011 collections (yes, it’s kinda sorta almost here) and have been drooling all over my keyboard ever since, it’s high time I showed you my faves so that we can get excited about the seasons (and styles) changing together. When I do get around to checking out the shows (style.com is where it’s at), I immediately go right for my favorite designers and put all the others on the back burner. So why should my Spring showcases on this here blog be any different? First up is (the always brilliant) Marc by Marc Jacobs. Highlights:

I can easily make out a references to the easy 70s and ladylike 40s here, but Mr. Jacobs is so beyond anything too literal and trendy, that everything becomes completely classic. Juicy brights, flattering silhouettes, sexy sheers, polished off with the perfect selection of shoes and cute straw hats. Spring is in the air!
Be sure and check back in for more delicious Spring collections, darlings!
As I was perusing the latest and greatest of the 2011 resort collections yesterday, I couldn’t help but notice these sporty, cherry red platform lace-up amongst the amazing collection- the line is, after all designed by Miuccia Prada (yes, that Prada) so I would expect nothing less. But this particular pair, stunning as they are, caught my eye for another reason: they look a lot like a lovely style we’re currently carrying (and for what I can only imagine is a small fraction of the price)! They are by vintage-inspired mixmasters Re-mix. Am I right, or am I right?
