Pack it up

There are two kinds of people in this world: the kind who overpack and the kind who don’t. As the only member of my family who works at a shoe store, my kin are always shocked to find that, for every trip, I have only packed two or three pairs of shoes— they have all managed to find room for at least five! Say what?! There’s no place I can image going for a week or less that requires so many! If you’ve got the room and the desire and the arm strength to carry them all with you… I never have any of those things, so I make sure they all go with the same pairs of shoes! Now is not the time to be indecisive, you guys! Pick your favorite outfits and rock em!

You need a flat shoe or sandal, comfy enough to see the sights by foot, a dressy shoe for all the schmancy places you might end up, and a ~wild card~ that pair that you just can’t bear to live without while you are gone because WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN?!*
The same goes for your bags: you need an all-day-goes-with-everything one and a schmancy one. Boom boom, look at all that room! All the better to fill it with snow globes for your coworkers, my dear.

Clockwise from bottom left: Cydwoq “Bare,” Orla Kiely shoulder bag, Born “Aberlin,” Biviel BV3356, Camper 21584, Shiraleah clutch, Goorin Bros. straw cloche, Swedish Hasbeens “Braided Sky High,” Tsubo “Tehina.” Pick two!

Bon Voyage!

Bootie-licious

Ah, Portland fall is upon us- or, as I like to call it, “pre-winter.” Because there’s not a huge difference, unfortunately. Slightly less rain, slightly less cold… Anywho, I like to take advantage of these slightlies before it’s time to get completely bundled up. Layers of pullovers, cardigans, blazers, knee socks, cool hats, whatever it takes to get you through in one stylish piece. And of course the ubiquitous ankle bootie.
I hear from customers all the time that they “can’t” wear ankle booties, but in reality there’s a bootie for everyone. You just have to find one the hits the proper spot on your leg, which just happens to be one of the slimmer parts of your ankle or calf, and certainly not the widest. This will be the magically flattering spot that doesn’t cut off your height. To inspire you, here’s a couple of style-savvy gals who get it right:

And here’s just a peek at the ankle-baring styles we have in stock for you:

Try cuffing your trousers or jeans to show them off, or with a skirt and some cozy tights or socks. These babies are just as versatile as a full length boot, so what are you waiting for?

Year Round Love

Everybody, let me introduce you to the new love of my life: the Swedish Hasbeen Jodhpur boot. I bought them the day they came in, immediately put them on, then proceeded to not take them off the entire weekend. Seriously people, they are amazing (and so comfortable), believe me, once you get them on, you too will find yourself justifying wearing shoes to bed!

And the best part of these guys is their versatility (which we already know I’m a fan of). You can wear ‘em all summer with shorts and dresses, and then jeans or some colorful sweater tights in the fall. Here’s some idea’s I’ve been cookin’ up in my head for my future with my beautiful Jodhpur boots.

The Jodhpur is now available at pedX, along with the Combat Ankle Boot. Go get ‘em while they last!

Friday Night Swag

Friday night, as a single gal, is one of my favorite nights of the week. Pourqui? Because the possibilities are endless, especially in a town like Portland where there is a little of everything to get into. You can choose to eat a delicious restaurant like Lincoln, hit up a street fair festival (this weekend Portland Brewfest is going down on the waterfront) or you can catch a live performance of just about any variety, just to name a few activities on the menu.

I like to mix it up, tonight my friends and I are having a slip n’ slide party. Its going to ROCK! I have already started to plan a frilly outfit around my latest buy: Swedish Hasbeens (this is for pre-ridiculousness that will be our night). They are so comfy and transition nicely from work to an evening with friends.

This is more or less my Friday night fit. What are you wearing?

Blue Jean Baby, Part 1

Ever since Levi Strauss started making jeans for cowboys back in the 1800s, there has been no piece of fashion so iconic, so inherently American. They’re pretty much the apple pie of clothing. The trends come and go, wax and wane, and right now it seems like denim is having an “anything goes” moment. So pick your favorite style now, because you can find all the different shapes. Pick a pair that makes your butt look real good. And then pick the perfect pair of shoes to go with each cut of jean because, well, you’d be shocked at what a difference it makes. And you didn’t splurge on the perfect pair of Good Butt Jeans just to blow it with the wrong shoe choice, now didja?

So how would you wear the oh-so-current boyfriend jean? First, make sure you’re wearing this masculine staple right: The fit should be on the baggy side, a bit distressed, and sit low on the waist. I recommend cuffing them so you’re not swimming in them. The other trick to ensure this is the only item on you that you ripped from your beau’s closet to pair them with deliciously girly things. To counteract their baggy shape, I love to couple this style with a blatantly feminine yet casual shoe with a heel or wedge. And of course a lil’ peep toe never hurt anyone! Add a girly blouse and you’re all set!
Until next time, blue jean babies!

Spring Colors: Peach/Pink/Nude

If the last few sunny have you feeling just peachy, then this post is for you!
Let me start by saying that I am one pasty sonnofagun. An unfortunate combination of genetics and weather has left me perma-pale, and there’s nothing to be done about it. As such, I thought my complexion left me out of the running for certain colors, especially pink. But with all these nudes, taupes, peaches, and ballerina pinks strutting down the runways and on the streets, who am I to resist? For the first time in a long time, I tried on a nudey, pinky thing (An oh-so-soft sweater. With Dolman sleeves, if you really wanna know.) And guess what? I looked damn good! Don’t miss out on the yummy color trends because of your coloring, just find the shade that works for you (this unfortunately involves a certain amount of trial and error, don’t say I didn’t warn you.)
If you’re nervous to take a dive into the naked look, start with shoes (heads up: this is my advice for everything!) A great nude colored shoe will give you legs for days, and who doesn’t want that? This effect is created by scoring a pair that is close in color to your skin tone, so that your legs get a few more inches added (and heels help with this too, obviously!)

Check out a few of my favorite leg-lengtheners in my new favorite color!

Any of these beauties would surely add a spring to your step!
