A week’s worth of giving: Treat Thineself

Hi y’all! I’m sure you’re deep in the throes of holiday by now- the wrapping, card-writing, line waiting thrill of it all. And that’s what we’re gonna talk about today. If you’re anything like, uh, everyone I know, you’re probably feeling a little stressed right now. Or a lot. And hey, that’s okay, but it’s also kinda not. If you’re spending all day every day thinking about everyone on your “nice” list, you’re probably not paying any attention to yourself. I’ve been hearing it a lot lately, in the stores: “But I’m supposed to be shopping for other people! ARGH!” Hey, so yeah, totally. But here’s the thing: most of us don’t shop this much the whole year combined. You’re bound to see something yummy that you want, and probably something that wasn’t on your Christmas list, so who’s gonna know to get it for you? Santa?? Nope, you gotta treat yo’self (and if you’re not watching Parks and Rec, consider it my gift to you.) Here’s a few gifts just for you, all under $100. Because Santa is way too busy, and you deserve a lil’ somethin’.

Treat yo’self

Clockwise from top left: lip balm (all kinds of flavors,) Jack Black, $9 @ Manifesto; printed socks, Sweet Marcel, $17 and $22 @both stores; leather chevron earrings, Maya Moon (local!) $32 @ Manifesto; hand-printed scarves (this one has unicorns all over it!) Snoozer Loser, $42 @ both stores; “Sunshine” loafers, Jeffrey Campbell, $99 @ Manifesto.

Also good gifts for: seriously, what did I just say? These are for YOU!

Fun idea: treat yo’self and don’t feel guilty. If you start to feel guilty, drink a hot toddy. Lather, rinse, repeat.

So happy holidays and a merry whatever from The Shoe Crew! Try not to stress out too much!
xoxo,
Sally

A week’s worth of giving: BFFF-style

Hi, and welcome to the final (kinda) installment of my week long, last minute, way-too-specific gift guide! Today is about your best bud, your gal pal. The chick who you can call at 3am when the party gets weird (but in all honesty, she’s probably already there.) She’s your BFFF, and she knows all your secrets, so you better get her something good so she keeps her trap shut.

BFFF (the extra F is NSFW)

Clockwise from top: “Ian” bag, Jeffrey Campbell, $82 @ Manifesto; enameled chevron necklace, Minoux (local!) $218 @ Manifesto; “Strider” boots, J Shoes, $249 @ Manifesto.

Also good gifts for: your regular BFF, college roommate (she might have even better secrets!)

Fun idea: include a tchotchke from your time together, like your favorite book growing up,  or a picture of you both from your prolonged “awkward phase.”

We have a little something extra for you tomorrow, so be sure and check back!
xoxo,
Sally

A week’s worth of giving: you and your boo

Welcome back, guys! We’re almost done with our last minute, way-too-specific holiday gift guide! Today, we’re talking ‘bout your boo. Your partner, significant other, ball n’ chain, what have you. Or, way-too-specifically, your hipster boo. The person who makes you really good mix tapes, shares their skinny jeans and cardigans with you, and goes to shows to not dance with you. Here’s a few things your boo might not have heard about yet that he or she might like.

Your hipster boo

Clockwise from top: toiletries, Jack Black, prices vary @ Manifesto; “Freedy” fedora, Goorin Bros., $54 @ Manifesto; “Winslow” boot, Tsubo, $225 @ Manifesto.

Also good gifts for: your hipster roommate, your hipster coworker.

Fun idea: stick a fun mix in with the gift, and maybe a Polaroid of the two of you together.

Stay tuned for more fun gift ideas!

A week’s worth of giving: adoration for aunts

Hello again! Today in my way-too-specific gift guide, we’re talking about aunts because my aunt is way too awesome to not mention. She is an artist and designer, with a flare for vintage and antique findings (she is after all, my mom’s sister.)
Her work has taken her all over the world, and it is reflected in her personal style, which I have admired since I was a wee one stumbling around her house in some miraculous beaded suede boots as she watched me. These are just a few items I would happily get her to compliment her “citizen of the world” style.

Aunt with a full passport

Clockwise from top: Beaded bracelet, Julie Rofman, prices vary @ pedX; Leather purse with tassels, Maya Moon (local!) $552 @ Manifesto; State pendant necklaces, Kris Nations, $38-$43 @ Manifesto (so that, in all that traveling, she won’t forget where she came from.)

Also good gifts for: any chic, loving, fantastic women in your life DUH!

Fun idea: wrap her presents up in a map, and include a fun find from a junk store, like a random tarot card or old Polaroid.

Check back tomorrow for my gift ideas!
xoxo,

A week’s worth of giving: Brotherly Love

Hi guys! We’re about halfway through the ultimate, last minute, way-too-specific gift guide! Have YOU finished your holiday shopping yet? Good, because I haven’t even started. I’m okay with that. I work best under pressure. If you have any brother-types, you already know that they can be quite tough to shop for. They’re not like best friends, where you can just get them stuff you want so you can borrow it. Ya know? I know ya know. Here’s a few too-specific gifts to get for your brother who is graduating college. It’s a time in his life when, though he is still young and probably regularly drunk, he needs to start stepping his game up/waking up before 10am/not drinking on Tuesdays/whatever. These gifts toe the line quite nicely, I think.

Brother who is graduating college

Left to right: “Yukon” hat, Pistil (local!) $35 @ Manifesto; St. John’s Bridge wooden cuff links (plus other fun styles,) Frawn (local!) $28 @ Manifesto; assorted socks (No, seriously. If you haven’t seen his socks recently, I can assure you they’re disgusting,) Richer Poorer, $12/ea @ Manifesto.

Also good gifts for: teenage sons, the guy who tutors your teenage son (because his socks are also probably disgusting,) your roommate.

Fun idea: Slip a gift certificate for a free grown up haircut in there, too. He probably needs one. I suggest checking these guys out.

See you tomorrow for more specific gifts!

A week’s worth of giving: Sister Style

Back for more, I see! Today is round three of my ultimate, last minute, way-too-specific gift guide! Thanks for coming! Do you have a little sister in your life? If so, she probably wishes she was as cool as you are. And, as a younger sister, she will never stop feeling this way. Like, ever. Crazy, right? The holidays are a time to throw her a bone, already. Give her something cool to make up for being so much cooler! Something fun that won’t break the bank because, hey, she’s probably gonna lose it at a house party anyway. Moving on…

Little sister who wishes she was as cool as you

Left to right: Cluster pendant, Nervous System, $67 @ Manifesto; Gold spine earrings, Besy + Iya (local!) $58 @ Manifesto; Aubrey clutch (also in yellow,) Shiraleah, $45 @ Manifesto.

Also good gifts for: Older sisters who wish they were as cool as you, lady babysitters.

Fun idea: include a subscription to an awesome fashion magazine in the gift- ya know, the one she’s always stealing your copies of?

Tomorrow, we’re still keeping it in the family- hope to see you then!
xoxo,
Sally

A week’s worth of giving: Dad’s Day

Hello, and welcome to the second installment of my ultimate, last minute, way-too-specific gift guide! Let’s talk dads- or, way-too-specifically, Cool “for a Dad” Dads.  The not overly cool Dad, the trying to be cool Dad… but he doesn’t wear socks with sandals, either. My dad wears socks with sandals, so my only point of reference is movies. The Cool “for a Dad” Dad shall be played by Hugh Grant. Or maybe Jon Hamm. Here’s a few items that will surely put him in the cooler corner.

Cool “for a Dad” Dad

Top to bottom: “Arnald” work bag, Property Of, $256 @ Manifesto; shoe care products, Otter Wax (made locally!) between $9-$20 @ Manifesto; ties, Pierrepont Hicks, between $82-$120 @ Manifesto.

Also good gifts for: Your aunt’s second husband, cool “for a boss” boss.

Fun idea: to win points with the father figure type guy in your life, never hesitate to get a little sappy. You’d be surprised how far a sappy card telling them how much you respect them will go.

Until next time!
xoxo,
Sally

A week’s worth of giving: Mom Monday

The holidaze are upon us, guys. For some of you, I’m just stating the obvious. But for me and others like me, I am really just starting to think about “The Holidays;” what they mean to me, what my plans are and, of course, what to get for my friends and family and put under the tree.* That’s why I’m giving YOU, my fellow procrastinators, this: My ultimate, last minute, way-too-specific gift guide! Come back every day this week for gift ideas, all available right here at pedX and Manifesto (because, let’s be honest, it’s probably too late to have anything shipped.)
Let’s start with the family, shall we?

Vintage-loving Mom

Clockwise from top: Vintage quarter pendant, Snoozer Loser, $49 @ Manifesto; “Wilma” cloche, Goorin Bros., $58 @ both stores; Vintage inspired Harlow jewelry (local!) prices vary @ pedX; Bracelets by Liquid Metal, prices vary @ both stores.

Also good gifts for: Artsy Aunts, Kooky mentors.

Fun idea: Tuck a fun vintage postcard or vintage paper dolls in with the gift for some added flare.

See you tomorrow!
xoxo,
Sally

*Shoot, I forgot to get a tree!

Valentine’s Day or (Com)Bust!

Alright, alright, I think that -if we’re all being perfectly honest- Valentine’s Day doesn’t fall into the “Favorite Holiday” category for anyone. Bearable? Perhaps? Insufferable? Maybe. But, as they say, don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s just one day (and in the shortest month, no less!) There’s no reason to stress and there is NO reason to break the bank when looking for an amazing gift. For instance, take these gorgeous, locally-made earrings by Minoux.

They’re inspired by butterfly wings, and you can snag a pair for your sweetheart for under 60 bucks. Plus we gift wrap! So basically picking a great gift was no harder than reading this blog and coming in. You don’t have to thank us, we do it because we love you!

12 Days of Christmas: Day 12

We’ve reached the end, friends! 12 drummers drumming? Keep the gift receipt, I’m not interested (appreciate the thought, though!) How about something that will drum up some inspiration to actually get out of bed on these cold days (as I blog from bed?)

These extra comfy eternity scarves are from Zasou. They come in array of fun stripey combos, and can be worn a few different ways. You won’t hear me complaining about this weather any more if I can slip on one of the luxe-feeling scarves, that’s for sure.

Thanks for staying with us as we countdown to Christmas! We appreciate all your love and support.
Happy holidays from the shoe crew!

(Sorry for the delay in posting. But this works out better, technically, because it’s officially Christmas now, right? Right?)
