Juicy Jet
As the sunny days loom on the horizon, it shouldn’t be a surprise that we’re getting in style after colorful style for spring. Yet I’m always surprised by the stunning, punchy, delicious styles we get! I love this sunny new pump from Esska, it’s as juicy and refreshing as a scoop of raspberry sherbet— same color, too!

Bootie-licious
Ah, Portland fall is upon us- or, as I like to call it, “pre-winter.” Because there’s not a huge difference, unfortunately. Slightly less rain, slightly less cold… Anywho, I like to take advantage of these slightlies before it’s time to get completely bundled up. Layers of pullovers, cardigans, blazers, knee socks, cool hats, whatever it takes to get you through in one stylish piece. And of course the ubiquitous ankle bootie.
I hear from customers all the time that they “can’t” wear ankle booties, but in reality there’s a bootie for everyone. You just have to find one the hits the proper spot on your leg, which just happens to be one of the slimmer parts of your ankle or calf, and certainly not the widest. This will be the magically flattering spot that doesn’t cut off your height. To inspire you, here’s a couple of style-savvy gals who get it right:

And here’s just a peek at the ankle-baring styles we have in stock for you:
Try cuffing your trousers or jeans to show them off, or with a skirt and some cozy tights or socks. These babies are just as versatile as a full length boot, so what are you waiting for?

Heavy Metal Lover
As a lifetime Virgo, I can tell you that as a child it literally never occurred to me to mix silver and gold when I started wearing jewelry. I say silver and gold because it also never occurred to me that there were other metals to wear. Literally. So you can imagine what a matchy-matchy adolescent I was. Total snooze!
It wasn’t until I started working here and saw how many amazing jewelers (Destiny Ray, Minoux, and Kiersten Crowley, just to name a few) mixed metals in the most elegant ways- not to mention mixing shapes and textures. What an epiphany!
I was and have continued to be truly inspired by this. Yes, this might be a total DUH moment for a lot of you out there, but just let me rant for a sec, will ya?
I started my quest the way the best ones do, with baby steps. It was a shiny silver charm on an oxidized silver chain- the two silvers were different, okay? Totally counts!
And now I am a full blown mix master! Shiny, antiqued, yellow gold, brushed copper- the works. The key is to make it look intentional, not messy. Stick to a palate of two or three metals (three, say, if it’s one antiqued and one shiny of the same metal, and then another complimentary metal.)
Enough chitchat, here’s a peek at the shiny stuff we have in store for you right now at pedX:

Doesn’t this look like an awesome party? So try wearing silver shoes with a pile of brassy necklaces, or gobs of silver earrings and rings with one or two gold ones. It’s fun, I swear!

sock it to me.
If you’ve learned one thing from this blog, I want it be that I am a huge supporter of making socks a part of the outfit. Specifically, I like wearing a fashionable sandal with a great sock. I know I’m not alone (right? … right?!)
Even as the temperature rises, I find myself wearing lightweight socks (Happy Socks are perfect for this!) with my lil Summer sundresses. As one final bit of inspiration, I stumbled across this photo while “window” shopping on the Revu. website:
How cute and Summer ready does she look? Love the chunky sandal with a plain sock, complimenting the dress and adding a special touch to a simple outfit.
Check out a few similar styles that we have at Manifesto:

(L-R: BV3122 by Biviel, “Grass” by Esska, #985 by Antelope)
And a few at pedX that fit the bill too:

(L-R: :Brave” by Gee WaWa, “Spano” by Gentle Souls, “Rachel” by Camper)
So next time you need to spice up your fave sundress, try layering a sock underneath your stylish sandal! But there are some rules to follow, as always.
1. This is not to be done with any sort of thong sandal. No, no, no!
2. This look works best with a simple sandal, a simple (as in one color) sock, or both if you’re just testing the waters.
3. Keep it in the same color family. Or, try a neutral shoe (tan, taupe, black, etc.) so you can get a little wild with the sock, or vice versa.
Have fun playing around, and let us know what you think on facebook!

Change of Shoes, Change of Scene (Part 1)
Given this, shall we say, disappointing weather as of late, I have let lethargy sink in. Suffice it to say, I am not living the life of your average Portland 20-something. But this weekend, I got several offers that I couldn’t refuse and, despite the fact that it was 20 degrees outside, I got all dolled up and enjoyed Portland nightlife this week. I may be paying for it now, but having to get dressed in something cute in a matter of minutes really inspired me. I’m sure you can sympathize with the sartorial challenge of schlepping home in the rain, dreaming of beds and space heaters only to be met by your roommate’s offer to go dance your tuchus off at Holocene. And hey, your roommate is really cool and even though you want to eat a Hot Pocket and pass out, you don’t want to miss the opportunity, now do ya? You have 20 minutes to get dressed and ready, by the way…
Heed my advice, friends. If only so you don’t have to do what I did (which is dig through a mountain of laundry to get to your shoes and what may or may not have been clean clothes in an effort to find a cute ensemble, while eating that aforementioned Hot Pocket.) If you want to be dressed appropriately to dance the night away at Holocene, you need a cute and comfortable pair of heels or a wedge.Take a look at what pedX has that would work for the occasion:

Take it from me; if you’re stuck on what to wear, it’s easiest to start with a prized pair of shoes and build an outfit around that. I wore my favorite comfy wedges (Jeffrey Campbell, if you really wanna know) because I have been looking forward to strutting my stuff in them more, so I started there and picked an outfit to match. The only way to travel when you’re in a bind! Anyhow, a fun, on-trend shoe like a strappy wedge or ankle bootie is a sure way to fit in with the Holocene crowd, and a comfortable solution when you’re shaking your groove thang, so to speak.
(Clockwise from top: Miz Mooz, Biviel, Esska.)
Tune in tomorrow for another installment of “Change of Shoes, Change of Scene!”

Sally
