A Girl Can Dream (Dream 3, Act 1)
I’m not looking for pity, I swear. Only speaking factually when I say that, unless I cash out for a custom pair, I will never be able to wear a knee high boot. My calves are… curvaceous. No complaints here, usually, I just get creative with all the shorter boots (and cold calves in winter. Ahem.) I have almost weened myself off of the lust— the fact that it’s summer sure doesn’t hurt matters— but it all came crashing down the other day when we got a shipment of fall boots from Gee WaWa. What was in there, might you ask, that sent me spinning, googling “calf slimming surgery” late into the night?*
The Ace riding boot. Specifically, the Ace riding boot in burgundy, wrinkled, buttery leather. So as a means of catharsis (I didn’t dare trying to think about trying them on. Would have been bad for morale.) I am here to show you how I would wear them if I could. *sniffle*
A sheer stripey blouse, peachy tux jacket, and medium wash skinnies, topped off with a black head scarf (tied all turban-y, if you really wanna know!) plus a droolworthy, matchy Erika Lauren necklace and little black Shiraleah clutch.
Do you see why NOT owning these boots might be a problem for me? This could possibly be the greatest outfit I’ve never worn!
So, dear readers, what is it that sets your hearts aflame? Would you rock this look?
*For the record, that last lil’ part was a joke, I swear!
A Girl Can Dream (Dream 2, Act 2)
I’m moonlighting as a REM-cycle stylist to show you a few dreamy outfits inspired by this time around by the “Rupert Jane.” These expertly designed beauties are from Gentle Souls by Kenneth Cole, and as previously discussed, have me drooling. These shoes are definitely worth the price tag of $198, because aside from being well made and über comfy, they will go with just about anything! This is how I would wear them to work (also a great interview outfit, peeps!)

The modest stacked heel and all black palette make this shoe the perfect foundation for a pop of color If you’re feeling up to it, I say go for a retro red dress, belted at the waist to show your shape. Top it off with a bag that says you mean business (Latico shown here,) some sweet posts (Daphne Olive birdies,) and a cool day-to-night blazer. Being professional doesn’t mean looking stuffy!
Sweet dreams until next time,
Sally
A Girl Can Dream (Dream 2, Act 1)
Here we are again, dear shoe fanatics. Last time you caught me dreaming about some stunning Cydwoqs and, if the stars align, what I would wear those dreamboats with. And it was off to dreamland again when we got these gorgeous shoes in the other day from the fashion-forward comfort brand Gentle Souls by Kenneth Cole. The “Rupert Jane” has some of the most dazzling details I have never seen! Tiny stitching across the entirety of the shoe create what looks at first glance to be a fish scale texture. To top it off, the stitches run off in opposite patterns, and the Mary Jane-style patent leather strap creates a flattering effect because it’s set on the diagonal (when’s the last time a horizontal stripe was flattering?) All carefully done in black, so it is just enough, not too much.
I digress, check them out for yourself.

When the temperature is hovering somewhere in the 70s, I would stay cool with a lightweight, linen ankle skirt, tissue weight tee, matching floppy hat (this one is from Goorin Bros.) and straw clutch (from Shiraleah.) And I would polish off my dream outfit with a Minoux necklace (are we noticing theme here?) and a swipe of punchy summer coral lipstick (I have the perfect creamy one!) to add a shock of color.
Until next dream, tell me: how would you wear them?
xoxo,
Sally
A Girl Can Dream (Dream 1, Act 2)
Hello, fellow dreamers and shoe enthusiasts (en-shoe-siasts?)
When we last delved into Dreamland, I was sleeping on these Cydwoq Recess. Aaaand I still am.
Since we were talking about how versatile this unique shoe is, I wanted to show you how I would dress them up. This would be my ideal outfit for date night, or perhaps an art opening:
Using the Recess as a neutral base, it would be really fun to play around with the trend of the moment, colorblocking. So branch out with punchy spring colors, all in solids, and simple silhouettes. I’d finish this feminine ensemble off with some colorful Harlow earrings and a bold Hobo clutch.
Whaddya think?
A Girl Can Dream (Dream 1, Act 1)
In case I haven’t mentioned it before, I work in a very dangerous environment. Beautiful, but dangerous. I have to look at gorgeous things all day— boohoo, right? Well, a girl’s gotta eat, so trying on beautiful shoes and jewelry, petting buttery bags, and having to go without can be a little rough. Enough with the sad sackery, I love every minute of it, because I get to play dress up— for myself, and all of you guys!
It’s pretty easy to get lost in Dreamland, especially when exquisite works of wearable art come in, like “Recess” from Cydwoq, which came in just the other day. And so begins a new series on the blog, called “A Girl Can Dream,” in which I share my dress up dreams with you!
I was struck by how uniquely versatile these shoes are; brown, short heel, neither dressy nor particularly casual, and yet breathtaking. Here’s how I would dress them down, perhaps for a sunny Sunday brunch or outdoor concert:
A pair of light wash, great-fitting jeans, loose, printed top, and finished off with some subtly stunning accessories like a Christopher Kon hobo bag, Minoux necklace (What? I’m addicted okay?) and some red socks peeking out from the jean cuffs.
This is gonna be fun!
What occasion would you wear the Recess for?
xoxo,
Sally
