A Girl Can Dream (Dream 1, Act 2)

Hello, fellow dreamers and shoe enthusiasts (en-shoe-siasts?)
When we last delved into Dreamland, I was sleeping on these Cydwoq Recess. Aaaand I still am.
Since we were talking about how versatile this unique shoe is, I wanted to show you how I would dress them up. This would be my ideal outfit for date night, or perhaps an art opening:

Using the Recess as a neutral base, it would be really fun to play around with the trend of the moment, colorblocking. So branch out with punchy spring colors, all in solids, and simple silhouettes. I’d finish this feminine ensemble off with some colorful Harlow earrings and a bold Hobo clutch.
Whaddya think?

A Girl Can Dream (Dream 1, Act 1)

In case I haven’t mentioned it before, I work in a very dangerous environment. Beautiful, but dangerous. I have to look at gorgeous things all day— boohoo, right? Well, a girl’s gotta eat, so trying on beautiful shoes and jewelry, petting buttery bags, and having to go without can be a little rough. Enough with the sad sackery, I love every minute of it, because I get to play dress up— for myself, and all of you guys!
It’s pretty easy to get lost in Dreamland, especially when exquisite works of wearable art come in, like “Recess” from Cydwoq, which came in just the other day. And so begins a new series on the blog, called “A Girl Can Dream,” in which I share my dress up dreams with you!
I was struck by how uniquely versatile these shoes are; brown, short heel, neither dressy nor particularly casual, and yet breathtaking. Here’s how I would dress them down, perhaps for a sunny Sunday brunch or outdoor concert:

A pair of light wash, great-fitting jeans, loose, printed top, and finished off with some subtly stunning accessories like a Christopher Kon hobo bag, Minoux necklace (What? I’m addicted okay?) and some red socks peeking out from the jean cuffs.

This is gonna be fun!
What occasion would you wear the Recess for?

xoxo,
Sally

Rapture Survival Guide (this is only a test.)

Whelp, we either all survived The Rapture or there simply wasn’t one. Oh, oops, it’s actually in October, says Rasputin that same guy who said it was May 21. The good news is, now we have plenty of time to prepare before we embarrass ourselves like last time.
Surely those left on this here planet would appreciate the irony of a t-shirt proclaiming “I survived The Rapture and all I got was this crappy shirt,” but if you’d prefer to rock your own look, be sure and adapt it to the ways of the new world.
Comfort, of course, is the most important thing. And the ability to withstand the elements: scorching hot temperatures, zombies, who knows really? You gotta be prepared.
Here is a handy shortlist from someone who knows*:

Firstly, make sure you have a hat to protect yourself from the elements. Light scarves will also help in that respect: they can keep you warm, protect you from the sun, be used as bandages, ropes, blankets, or makeshift shelter. Who knows what the future holds? Could be the best $20 you ever spent!
I also recommend a sturdy bag (cross body is a must!) plus a watch so you know when to cast your eye to the sky (or afterwards, when the apocalypse has rendered cell phones useless and you need to know what time Glee is on.) And as fair warning, get yourself some post earrings, so the zombies have one less thing to grab on to.
And just to state the obvious, you ought to get yourself some comfy shoes, just in case you have to run for your life, or the spaceship, or… something. Remember those Heaven’s Gate people and their sweet new Nikes? They had the right idea!

If the armageddon has your style stumped, we’d love to help you out! Shoot an email to sally@pedxshoes.com!

Till next time (if there is one,)
Sally

Spring Colors: Goldenrod

Though technically spring, we Portlanders know that one day of sunshine doesn’t allude to months of nothing but nice days. One day of sandal weather leads to three of of rain boot weather, and so on and so forth until July. Don’t let the emotional rollercoaster getcha down— spring can be a state of mind, too!
The key here is to trick your brain and rise above the weather, and (aside from lots of Vitamin D and fresh produce) you can do so by adorning yourself in the colors of the season. This is the part where I would tell you to “banish the black” or whatever, but let’s be realistic instead, k? I will amend this to say wear as little black as humanly possible. Perhaps challenge yourself to go several days without wearing black, or perhaps only accessorizing with it. The thing about black (versatile as the shade may be) is that it ends up feeling heavy, and it drags down your happy outfit, so just experiment with ditching the goth staple. How’s that sound?
Let’s start with one of my favorite colors ever, which just so happens to be all the rage this spring: goldenrod yellow.

Pick a shade that works for you, anywhere between pale yellow and something a bit richer and mustardy. If this cheerful shade seems a little overwhelming for you, start with a smaller take on the shade, like your shoes or bag. If and when you warm up to the idea, try a happy top or dress. Can’t you feel the spring sun already?

Check back soon for another happy spring color that’ll keep you from getting the sads!

CYDWOQ ALERT! We just got in two new styles from Cydwoq! These beautiful metallic sandals are making it pretty impossible to wait for spring to hit Portland!
