How perfectly do these new loafers (“Tempo” from J. Shoes) compliment this wood grain print (by Todd St. John and Gary Benzel)? Not only do the colors match, but they both have the same kind of retro, classic, woodsy vibe to them. I can dig it.

We’re back with another Vegas Vid, and we hope you’re enjoying them as much as we are! Today, let’s talk Biviel, we know you love it! And we love our rep Tony, who you might recognize from his previous reality experience on Super Nanny (I’m a shameless namedropper like that.) Tony was gracious enough to step in front of the camera once again to show you one of the bestest offerings from the Fall/Winter 2012 collection for Biviel.

Take a look, drool away:

So good, right? We’re excited to get this boot in, even if it means summer is ending, and it seems so far away as it is. Sigh…
At least we’ll have these foxy boots to enliven us. Thanks so much for hanging out with us Tony, and everyone at Biviel!

Stay tuned for more Vegas footage and sneak previews!

But we managed to pick out a ton of new goodies for you, and caught videos of as much as we could in the process (perhaps next time, we’ll get an interview with the elusive Jeffrey Campbell!)

We had a lot of fun, and wanted to show you a few of the shoes and boots you have to look forward to next fall,* but then we got camera shy, and made our reps and designers do it for you! They did real, real good!

Thanks to everyone for putting up with our cameras in their face, we hope you like what we put together (and please pardon all the background noise, it was a very crackin’ trade show this time around… and every other time. Ever.)

First up, the lovely Cheryl with Miz Mooz:

Let me introduce you to my Shoe Best Friend Forever. If you are like me, you love height but hate to wear heels. This is where our SBFF comes in: wedges!

While my 5’3” is not short by any means (and ain’t nothin’ wrong with short!), sometimes it’s fun to tower in long flowy skirts and things like that. However, the wounded baby deer look that heels give me kinda contradicts the look I’m going for. Wedges give us that stability we all crave. And lucky for us wedges, platforms, and flatforms are all over the place right now. Check out a few of my favorites in stock right now, in case you wanna crank up the volume a bit:

(l-r: GeeWaWa “Daphne” in black and in blue, Indigo “SkyReno”, Jeffrey Campbell “Edna Punch”, OTBT “Rockdale”)(And many more coming in this spring!)

I love rings, but I always find it a struggle to know how many is too many and if they match or not. I don’t want to look like the girl who woke up and decided to wear ALL her jewelry. Well my friends, after extensive trial and error process, I believe I have found the guidelines to ring wearing!

If you want to go with the simple and always classic understated look, then one or two rings will be good for you. Try layering 2 rings on one finger, or 1 on each hand.

If you prefer a lot of finger bling then I recommend wearing rings on up to five fingers out of the ten. Maybe 2 on one hand and 3 on the other. Anymore than five fingers and your hand might start to look a little bionic… (maybe similar to Beyonce’s hand in her Single Ladies video)
When I say five, I don’t mean five rings total. Layering is way amazing with rings, one of my fav. things to do! So maybe layer a couple thin rings together.

It’s also super sexy to mix metals and colors, but I like to choose one base color that is in every ring. With my picture example, I chose gold, they all have a little gold in them even though there are also other colors. It brings cohesion to your hand.

Your hands deserve to look fabulous too, they work really hard.

Stay Glam, Portland!

Marika

*Don’t forget to throw a cute nail polish on to complete the look! I chose Essie Armed and Ready

The Roaring 2012s

The Art Deco movement has always been a favorite of mine- well, ever since I knew what that meant, anyway. It is a style of art and design that began in the 20s where most things do: Paris. Characterized by modern functionality, linear symmetry, chevron shapes, and sunbursts. Imagine how pleased I was when these beauties from Indigo were delivered:

The T-straps are like little Eiffel Towers! Très chic! And so easy to style in a modern, minimalist way, to let the shoes do the talking, or play up the Roaring-20s vibe with a drop waist dress and deep red wine lips. However you choose to wear them, I promise they’re comfortable enough to do the Charleston all night in!

However, when it comes to style and fashion I’ve always followed the rules that were made a very long time ago. Sally has terrific fashion sense and has turned me onto several style blogs with some serious envelope pushers. With a new life ahead of me, I decided to take the plunge and break out of my fashion rule following. (Nothing too crazy yet though, I am a mom in my 40s! *)

The first rule pitched was that socks with sandals thing. I am head over heels (ha!) with my Swedish Hasbeen sandals and have been looking at them lovingly and longingly in my closet, waiting for summer to come back. I bravely and boldly grabbed some fabulous striped SmartWool socks, - I so don’t do cold feet - my comfy jeans and sweater, and my Hasbeens. (I’ve found an old favorite clothing staple is key in shaking things up - baby steps.) And check me out - doin’ the socks and sandals thing!

Next up - mixing metals. I have worn silver jewelry exclusively for most of my life but was recently given a beautiful necklace as a gift with both silver and gold strands. Since I’ve had this ring in my jewelry box forever which my great-grandfather made for my grandmother over 100 years ago, I slipped it on a gold hoop, and there it’s stayed in my top piercing for several weeks now - nary a care as to matching it with the other earrings I wear. I even wear a gold bracelet with my silver rings. Girlz, I’m gettin’ crazy!

So break those rules! We’re lucky to live in Portland after all - we can do anything! Now excuse me, I have some more rules to break!

(*I don’t see myself in white between labor and memorial day though!)

Gettin’ Cozy With It.

A little music to get you going, one of my fave throwbacks:

Hello Portlanders! We are deep into the middle of a rainy Portland winter and this kind of weather requires extra preparation while getting ready in order to stay dry and toasty roasty.
Like many women, I am in a constant battle with my hair during the rainy season. The weird mist that seems to follow me everywhere is out to get me and make my hair resemble that of a Wookie. In the years that I have lived here I have discovered that one of the best winter/rainy day accessories to wear is a snood (think if a scarf and a hood had a baby).
Wouldn’t it just be easier to wear a big ole coat? No.
Sometimes you have an awesome coat without a hood, rendering it useless in the rain. Or maybe you have a delightful dress on and it is just not worth it to whip out your puffy, bulky winter coat because it would obviously ruin the outfit. But UH OH, your head is still going to get wet and the rain will ruin your lovely hairstyle! But I have a great solution for everyone with a cold and wet head:
HOODED SCARVES! or Capes or Shrugs! They’ll keep you warm and dry, they keep your hair frizz and wet-dog-smell free, and they are cozy and adorable!

Here’s a peek at a few of the cozy covers we have in stock, and each can be worn at least two ways:

Maybe you think that an umbrella might be a practical option, but I can tell you from experience that it is not. Umbrellas are awkward and get in the way, as well as block your view. I have been hit in the face with someone’s umbrella in the street and I did not consider it a good time, at all. Another thing about Umbrellas which I learned when I moved here, people look at you weird. People that live here have learned how to brave the rain, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look cute doing it with a saucy little hood. :)

Stay cozy, Portland!
- Marika

One of my favorite things about the preppy look is how adaptable it is; it’s as easy to wear a straightforward prepster look as it is to throw on a pair of oxfords and a collared shirt with some punky accessories for a cheeky look. Peep our latest preppy arrival, the “Outlook” from Jeffrey Campbell:

They have a distinctive 20s, Great Gatsby vibe to them, dontcha think? You could own the preppiness with some pegged jeans or trousers and a vintage varsity jacket, or try them out with a knee length skirt and stripey shirt. But if you wanted to mix things up, maybe some skin tight jeans and a sassy top? The possibilities are endless, and the “Outlook” is good!
How you you wear these preppy shoes?

xoxo | Sally

Q: What can you wear with red shoes?

A: ANYTHING.

Check out these babies from Cydwoq Vintage. They’re red, rich, delicious, and worth every penny. Know why? Because red is versatile! Scoff all you want, it totally is. I have red boots, red sandals, and I need MORE. I think that someday I want to only have colorful shoes. It can be My Thing. Anyway, a girl can dream…

Anyway, just imagine these with:

your favorite t-shirt and jeans

an ankle length skirt and tank

trousers and a comfy sweater

a mini skirt and cozy tee

almost anything, seriously

Red is magic, and looks great paired with mustard yellow, pale pink, navy blue, light blue, all the neutrals… I could go on.

I hope you’re convinced, because I sure am!

Well, next time, my advice to you is to stop the babe dead in her tracks and ask her where her shoes/top/haircut is from and give her a compliment. You’ll seriously make her day!
Style blogs are harder. And by harder I mean easier, because you have me on the case! * I was cruising my favorite street style blogs just this morning, and ran across this doll:

on Elle Magazine’s Tumblr, and well… dang. Just look at her! Such a simple outfit, but totally head-turning at the same time! How do some people just do that?
The shoes immediately made me think of some oh-so-fun OTBT wedges we have here, and I thought it would be fun to “recreate” the look using the OTBTs, and other things you can actually buy. Check it out, after the jump!

What do you think, guys? I think you can pull it off! And for the record, everyone needs a fun colored coat; everyone.
Coat: JOSEPH
Sweater: TopShop
Shoes: “Rockdale” by OTBT (here!)
Bag: “Post” by Cydwoq (yup, here too!)
Glasses: Madewell
Jeans: Rich and Skinny

xoxo,
Sally

*I should, of course, say for the record, that a great many street style blogs DO note what the stylish person is wearing. This is awesome. But it doesn’t mean you can get it. Let’s get you something like it!

Hi, I recently tried on a pair of Camper shoes from the sale area. The friend I was shopping with secretly went back and bought them for me! Unfortunately, I now realize that they are a smidge too small. I know sale items can't be returned or exchanged, but I was wondering if you carried the next size up. If so, maybe I can work out an e-bay sale of these. Beige/nude flats, crisscross elastic laces and orange eyelet details. The box says "Circuit Pau-Pravia." I have size 38. Is 39 avail?

Hello — We do have a size 39 available. Please give us a call if you would like us to hold them for you. 503 460 0760. Thanks!

In Defense of Colorful Shoes

Lately I’ve been feeling like I need to add some color to the sea of brown and black that is my shoe closet. Keeping things simple is always okay, but my feet were feeling like they needed somethin’ a lil different soon. And then (absolutely adorable) Jeffrey Campbell’s “Pony Up” came just in time.

My next problem was what do I wear green shoes with?? I worried about what colors would work, what outfits would match, and then it hit me… don’t match! Make the shoes a wonderful shining beacon of the center of attention.

With an amazing shoe like this, you definitely don’t want to distract from them anyway. So I worked on the art of dressing around the shoe, something we’ve discussed before. Keep the rest of the outfit simple and clean, but also structured. I also practiced werkin’ the oh-so-hot-right-now monochromatic look, in my current favorite: complimentary shades of brown and tan. Throw on some Viv & Ingrid posts, a Minoux necklace and a fabulous Christopher Kon bag, and you’re ready to go!

Happy new year: rock show style

The new year is fast approaching and if you’re anything like me you’ve started to kinda, sorta, begin to think about what you will be doing to ring in the new year. Or maybe you are already prepared, tickets in hand, ready to celebrate. I just tend to procrastinate, ya know? Regardless, there’s always a million options for new years eve in this fair city, and once you decide what to do, you’ll be dressing accordingly.
If you’re headed to your favorite venue/show house this new year’s to check out some live tunes, here’s an outfit idea:

My inspiration for this outfit is Charlotte Gainsbourg, daughter of Serge, who has that whole tomboy-chic thing down to a science! The look is casual, while still being incredibly stylish and put together- which is key on new year’s eve, even if the afterparty is in a sweaty basement. Some sassy ankle boots will make the perfect finishing touch to a tuxedo-inspired get up, dontcha think? I bet Charlotte would approve!
Necklace and leather bracelets by Minoux, Mail bag from Cydwoq , vintage scissor scarf from Snoozer Loser and (my loves!) “Desmond” suede booties by Jeffrey Campbell.

Have a happy, safe, awesome new year!
xoxo,
Sally

Raise your hand if you just got in Cydwoq bags!

Hey, that’s us!

Left: Mail bag, Right: Maple (Also in washed navy. Also amazing.)

These two bags are so different. Mail is casual, yet put together. Perfect to carry your papers to work and look chic, or for a trip to the flea market on the weekend. You can’t go wrong pairing it with a pair of luxurious silk slacks and a sheer secretary blouse. Maple is so ladylike, with a lot of vintage appeal; imagine it with vintage wool dress and some thick tights, or a floral sundress in the summer!

But Mail and Maple have a lot in common too. They’re both gorgeous, made from fine leathers by Cydwoq, and wear year round. Practical AND stylish?! Don’t tell anyone!
